The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is conducting active shooter response training at Malcolm High School as part of its ongoing effort to prepare deputies and school staff for emergency situations.
Chief Deputy Ben Houchin says the department’s training team is leading the exercise alongside sheriff’s deputies today. The annual training is part of the agency’s strategic plan to hold a full-scale exercise at a different Lancaster County school each year. Previous training sessions have been held in Raymond and Waverly.
In addition to the hands-on exercise, deputies meet with school administrators to answer questions and discuss emergency response plans after observing the training. Houchin says the goal is to be prepared for the worst while hoping such a response is never needed.
He says he’s proud of the deputies who organize the training and calls the preparation an important investment in school safety.
