The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an in-custody death following an incident late Tuesday night at a Lincoln hotel. The Sheriff’s Office says Lincoln Police officers contacted a Lincoln man around 11 p.m. inside the Hampton Inn near 56th and Old Cheney.
LSO Public Information Officer Kelsey Cruz says the man had outstanding warrants for assault causing bodily injury and disturbing the peace. “The 23-year-old man fled from officers and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No officers were injured, and there was no use of force by officers during the incident.”
Cruz says the investigation will be presented to a grand jury, which is standard procedure in in-custody death investigations.
