The Lincoln Police Department is stepping up traffic enforcement in September, with a focus on safety in school and street construction zones. LPD says officers will monitor areas where traffic violations could put students, pedestrians, road workers and other drivers at increased risk.
“With students returning to school and construction continuing throughout Lincoln, police are reminding drivers to slow down, stay alert and obey posted speed limits and traffic signs,” says LPD Public Information Manager Erika Thomas.
LPD says speed limits may be reduced in school and work zones, and penalties for some violations may be increased. Drivers are also urged to watch for changing traffic patterns, construction signs, workers, pedestrians and children traveling to and from school.
The enforcement effort is supported by funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office.
