Pioneers Park Nature Center will offer two guided evening walks this fall, giving visitors a chance to explore the park’s natural areas after sunset. Nature Center Coordinator Jamie Kelley said the Twilight Treks allow participants to experience the prairie differently as nocturnal wildlife becomes active.
The first walk will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Nature Center, 3201 S. Coddington Ave. The event coincides with the autumnal equinox and will focus on seasonal changes and how wildlife responds to shorter days and cooler nights.
A second trek is scheduled from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. That walk will highlight the sights and sounds of autumn and nighttime activity in the park.
“Exploring the prairie as day turns to night helps people connect with nature’s rhythms and discover the wildlife that becomes active after sunset,” Kelley said. “It’s a memorable experience for all ages.”
The walks may also include information about astronomy, legends and storytelling, and local natural history. Each Twilight Trek is open to all ages and costs $5 per person.
