Fans traveling to downtown Lincoln for football and volleyball events should allow an extra 30 minutes to an hour because of construction and increased traffic, city officials say. Lincoln Transportation and Utilities and Park & Go issued the reminder Wednesday.
Drivers are encouraged to check traffic conditions before leaving, follow traffic signs and directions, and watch for pedestrians and bicyclists near event venues. LTU says it monitors traffic throughout the day and coordinates with public safety officials and event partners to keep vehicles moving.
City parking garages east of 10th Street offer several options for downtown visitors. Drivers can check availability and reserve prepaid parking through Park & Go. On Husker football home game days, fans can also pay $15 for all-day parking at downtown meters using Zone 90 in the Passport Parking app.
Downtown garage locations include:
- Larson Building Garage, 1317 Q St.
- University Square Garage, 101 N. 14th St.
- Eagle Garage, 1330 N St.
- Carriage Park Garage, 1128 L St.
- Center Park Garage, 1120 N St.
The city recommends the following routes into Lincoln:
- From Omaha or the northeast: Use Interstate 80 exits 399 at Lincoln Airport, 401 at Ninth Street before games, 403 at 27th Street, 405 at 56th Street or 409 at Waverly. Officials say the routes from exits 399 and 403 have no construction impacts.
- From Nebraska City or the east: Take Nebraska Parkway to South 84th Street, Old Cheney Road, 70th Street and Normal Boulevard.
- From Beatrice or the south: Take U.S. 77 to Van Dorn Street, 10th Street, N Street and the Haymarket.
- From Kearney or the west: Take I-80 to Exit 401 and Interstate 180 into downtown Lincoln.
Drivers can check current traffic conditions through Nebraska 511 or Waze. The city also provided a downtown parking map to help visitors plan their trips.
