A small fire in the wood shop at Lincoln High School prompted an evacuation Thursday morning, but students and staff were allowed back inside after Lincoln Fire and Rescue determined the building was safe.
Principal Mark Larson says staff immediately pulled the fire alarm around 9:30 and evacuated the school and called LFR. Firefighters say the fire started in a table saw and people inside the room put out the fire with an extinguisher before crews arrived.
LFR Pubic Information manager MJ Lierman says the fire damaged the saw and some tubing connected to the dust collection system. Firefighters checked the system for possible lingering embers but found none. “There was no smoke present, and the damage was limited to the saw.”
Classes resumed after the building was cleared. School officials thanked firefighters for their quick response and students for following staff instructions.
