Insect-Repellent Device Blamed For Lincoln House Fire

By Tom Stanton Oct 26, 2026 | 12:16 PM

Lincoln Fire and Rescue says an insect-repellent device is believed to have accidentally started a fire that damaged the outside of a home near 34th and Williamsburg Drive early Monday morning. LFR Public Information Officer MJ Lierman says the fire started in a planter on the deck of the home.

Lierman says the device was similar to an incense stick designed to repel mosquitoes and was smoldering before the fire started, damaging the deck and siding. Lierman says damage is estimated at $25,000.

She says a nearby propane tank that was venting may also have contributed to the fire. Lierman says this incident is a reminder to use caution with smoldering materials, especially as dry leaves and other debris accumulate.

Lierman also reminds residents to properly dispose of cigarettes and other smoking materials to help prevent accidental fires.
