Driver Hospitalized After Lincoln Railroad Crossing Crash

By Tom Stanton Nov 7, 2026 | 9:08 AM

A driver suffered minor injuries Friday night after police say they attempted to beat an oncoming train at a railroad crossing in north Lincoln. LPD and Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded to the crash shortly before 9 p.m. on 33rd Street, just south of Cornhusker Highway.

LPD says the preliminary investigation indicates the driver of a northbound Chevy Cavalier attempted to drive around the activated railroad crossing gates and warning lights to beat a westbound train. The vehicle failed to clear the tracks in time and was struck by the train.

Police say the driver, who was the only person in the car, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
