1st All Female Change of Guard At Tomb Of Unknown Soldier

By Austin Michael Oct 15, 2021 | 7:58 PM

I meant to mention this earlier and got caught up, but I think it’s still worth mentioning.

For the first time in 84 years, an all- female guard change happened at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The announcement was made a couple of weeks ago. The historic changing of the guard happened sometime in August according to a Tweet by the U.S Army. It does a heart good to see women serving proudly and being able to participate in these honors.

The tomb started in 1921 as a single marble slab with the remains of an unidentified soldier from World War One. The guard is changed every half hour in the summer and every hour in the winter.
