2021 was a good year for CD and Vinyl sales. Also, get nostalgic watching a couple commercials for CD Walkmans and Car CD players in blog.

Something happened in 2021 that make an old guy like me feel young again. Sales of compact disks went up in 2021! That’s the first time in 17 years. Take that millennials and your fancy streaming services like Pan-tidal or whatever!

Seriously though, CDs AND Vinyl record sales both went up in 2021. Although it, wasn’t a huge jump. CD sales went from 40.16 million in 2020 to 40.59 million in 2021. Experts are saying it’s because of some big name releases in 2021 like Taylor Swift and Adele. Adele, all by herself, was responsible for nearly 3 percent of those cd sales. And it did affect streaming…….. on Spotify. It was down around 2%. Other streams like Apple were up though. Audio on demand streaming was actually at an all-time high with 988.1 billion streams, more than 10 billion more than in 2020. So…..kind of makes the CD sales leap seem somewhat miniscule in comparison. Which is why we need to make a bigger difference with something I know we all want to get behind, cassette singles!
