Can’t always trust Tik Tok

By Brooke Summers Jan 28, 2022 | 11:15 AM

In the words of Sophia Petrillo…picture it…Gastonia, 2022! Olivia Garcia goes viral.

Olivia and her her family were off on a road trip, and like many of us, Olivia loves Tik Tok. I mean it teaches you dances, recipes AND amazing travel destinations. Olivia saw a Tik Tok that told her that the Swiss Alps were in Gastonia, North Carolina (spoiler they are not, they are in Switzerland). So the family heads out on a road trip and Olivia adds “The Swiss Alps” as a destination along the route. The thing is, it wasn’t along the route at all. It was actually an hour and a half out of the way, but who wouldn’t drive out of the way to see the Swiss Alps, right??🤦🏽‍♀️

When Olivia and her family arrived in “The Swiss Alps” she was surprised to find that it was just a normal little town, with a few gas stations, strip malls and well, no alps anywhere. Needless to say she was a bit surprised.  It all happened because she a Tik Tok by a guy who posts fake location videos and calls them “NOT Carolina” videos. The one that caught Olivia’s eye was “Gastonia, NC” but the video was of the Swiss Alps. Of course her family gave her a hard time about it all, rightfully so.

Check out her video and the fake video below:
