A 27 year old man is charged with using counterfeit U.S. currency bills to make purchases from a number of locations across Lincoln.
On ten different occasions between February 13th and the 23rd, Austin Barrett used fake bills to buy items of minimal value. In return he would get legitimate bills as change. He also purchased several gift cards.
Through these ten transactions, Barrett passed a total of $1,730 in counterfeit bills of various denominations. Investigators were able to determine Barrett’s identity with the help of video surveillance. He was arrested at his home on the morning of February 25th.
Barrett was booked on ten counts of 1st degree forgery.
