An iconic symbol from my childhood, Mile High Stadium, looked like I might be engulfed in flames yesterday. A section of the seating was burning furiously. They think it started one a chair in a suite and spread from there. Then it spread fast. Watching the video kind of makes me never want to sit in stadium seats again because of how fast they burn. It’s like watching how fast a pile of leaves goes up. What are those seats made of? They burned so fast and hot that the sprinkler system that goes off in case of fire didn’t make a dent. Wow. It might be safer to sit on old oily tires in the future. Anyway, fire fighters were able to put it out quickly and save the stadium.
Growing up in Scottsbluff, my family went to Denver all the time. I didn’t get a chance to see many Bronco games, but the way the stadium stood out, with the way the upper curves almost look like a roller coaster made a big impression on me. That, and it was the Broncos, the “Orange Crush”. And then there was the Orange Crush soda that spiked in popularity because of the Broncos. I don’t know if you can still buy it, but there is a Crush soda.
