Researchers checked the blood of 22 people and found that 17 of them have microscopic plastic particles in there. Now, it’s not like chunks are floating around, but they did find plastic polymers. The most common one they found is a type of plastic that’s used to make drinking bottles and food packaging. The 2nd most common plastic they found is the kind used to make plastic food bowls, plates, and food containers. It’s also used to make Styrofoam. They also found a lot of the kind used in the plastic bags you use when shopping, paints, and sandwich bags.
Another fun fact. According to the World Wildlife Federation study from 2019, we all inhale 2,000 tiny platic particles every week. It’s just floating around EVERYWHERE.
The average amount they found in people’s blood was about one millionth of a gram. That’s a tiny amount, but if you’re like me, the chance of any plastic floating around in your blood isn’t something you want to hear. Also, the study was done in the Netherlands where they don’t use nearly as much plastic as we do in the U.S. So, one can only imagine. Better yet, don’t imagine. Just enjoy your bottled water.
