Spring is in the air which means it’s time to declutter your belongings. And before I go any further, let me just say THE Mother of all Garage Sales is coming up Friday and Saturday at the Lancaster Event Center . . . which is the perfect location/event to get rid of your stuff. But if this weekend’s event doesn’t help you, then this blog may be brilliant or dumb.
As mentioned on Brooke and Bic Mornings, someone recently came up with a hack that is supposed to help you let go of your belongings. But here’s the thing, you’re not really “letting go” of your stuff . . . you’re HIDING it from yourself.
Essentially what you’re supposed to do is to make four piles . . . keep, toss, donate, and hide.
Why the hide pile? The rationale is . . . it’s hard to get rid of the stuff you purchase because it seems like a waste. And you’re always worried you might need it someday. So if you can’t get rid of something, just hide it somewhere . . . and see if you miss it. Chances are you won’t. And the next time you declutter, you’ll have an easier time giving it to places like Goodwill or the Salvation Army.
The person behind the hack said it worked for her, especially with clothing she never wears. And she thinks it’ll work for other people too.
