Jenny and I were supposed to be in Rhode Island last week to visit family and Jenny was going to run a race. Then Delta Airlines called us up and cancelled our flight the night before we were supposed to leave. The best they could do was reschedule it for Saturday. We wouldn’t have gotten there until 5 Saturday afternoon, missing basically everything. It would have been pointless. We could have gotten a flight on another airline the day we were supposed to head out, but the tickets would have cost couple thousand dollars more. It wasn’t in our budget. We had to cancel everything including the flights home on American Airlines who said they’ll credit us. We have to use that within a year. We have no plans to fly anywhere else, so I don’t how we’ll end up using them, if at all. Plus, we bought the tickets 4 months ago and the credit is now about one fourth the cost of a ticket today. But I understand. This wasn’t American Airlines’ fault. It’s Delta’s. And because they cancelled, we lost the money for the race because the race won’t do a refund. And the money we paid for the Delta tickets? Yeah, they haven’t gotten back to us on it at all about a refund or credit or anything. So, that’s about a grand floating in the wind because they dropped the ball.
We did a mini staycation instead and spent a day at the Omaha Zoo, where we got to watch a monkey tease a couple of birds in the Lied Jungle. It run up close to them, they’d raise their wings and run at him. Then he’d quickly run off and up a tree only to come back down and do it again 20 seconds later. It was a good half hour of entertainment. Here’s the actual footage of that money.
