Sriracha hot sauce will probably disappear soon. In fact, I went to 6 different stores in Lincoln Friday afternoon and only one had any. There were 6 bottles left. I bought one. An hour later, after I’d visited other stores and saw the shelves bare, I realized I should have bought all six and sold the extras on E-Bay.
Huy Fong Foods, who makes it right here in the U.S. has already quit making it and say that they probably won’t be able to start again until after Labor Day. There was an unexpected crop failure in the chili harvest this year caused by rising temperatures and drought. And not just here. They get chilies from from Mexico too. No good crops anywhere.
If this doesn’t make you want to fight climate change, I don’t know what will. I use sriracha on a lot of things: burritos, eggs, in ramen noodles, and I mix it with mayonnaise to put on hamburgers and dip fries in. Foods are elevated by it. Once you’ve had something with sriracha, there’s no going back. It’d just seem…… less.
