Lightning struck a truck as it was going down the highway in Tampa Bay last Friday. The front seat passenger had her camera phone rolling video and caught the whole thing. It was amazing. You see a strike about 10 feet in front of them. It looks like it hits the truck in front of them then there’s a coupe other strikes and it’s almost like the vehicle filming it drives right into the lightning. It sounds like firecrackers going off. There were a couple of adults and three kids in the truck when it happened. Luckily, no one was hurt. I heard the truck was fried though.
I looked up what you should do to stay safe from lightning in a vehicle during a storm. You should make sure all of your windows are closed. I hadn’t thought about that. It helps cut off the strike from entering the car and into you. I’ve driven around with the windows down before on cool days during rain. The National Lightning Safety Institute lists some safety precautions and facts about lightning and vehicles.
