Study link vitamin D to lower dementia risk.

By Austin Michael Jul 18, 2022 | 7:38 PM

In today’s health news, “D” is for dementia, avoiding dementia that is. Researchers in a recent study say that they’ve found that a low level of Vitamin D is associated with with increased risk of dementia and stroke. Participants in the study who had levels lower than 25 nanomoles per liter were predicted to be 54% more prone to dementia than people with 50 nanomoles per liter and higher.

Which is kind of unnerving because I had my vitamin D levels tested last year and they were low. But, I’ve been taking supplements every day ever since. I thought my test would have shown high levels because I drink a lot of milk and am out in the sun a lot. I didn’t know that as we get older, our skin doesn’t synthesize it from the sun as well. So, I take the 2,000 IU pills once every day.

Ice cream has milk. Milk has vitamin D. Can I up my levels from eating more ice cream? I’m going to have to look into that.

Just an FYI, drinking alcohol can drop your vitamin D levels.
