Covid Vaccination Possible Affect On Mammograms

Covid vaccinations might affect the outcome of a mammogram.

Your body has an immune reaction to any vaccines. They make it think it’s fighting an infection. So, there can be swelling in lymph nodes. That can create some uncertainty with a mammogram.

This isn’t something that’s new or limited to Covid. Vaccines for shingles, tetanus, and flu have also caused lymph nodes to become slightly swollen.

Experts say that women getting mammograms should let their doctor know if they’ve been immunized recently and tell them which arm they’ve gotten the shot in. They also suggest waiting 6 to 8 weeks after getting the Covid shot before scheduling an appointment. That is, unless you have immediate concerns about breast cancer.
