Passengers on a recent American Airlines flight were hearing weird sounds over the plane’s intercom. They sounded like an adult man groaning, possibly in pain. But, nobody knew where it was coming from. It wasn’t the captain or the flight attendants. In fact, an attendant made an announcement that they didn’t know what it was, but were trying to figure it out. One of the passengers recorded it on his phone.
It just kept going on over the intercom system. He posted that clip and people on other American Airlines flights said it happened to them too.
American Airlines gave this as an explanation, “Following the initial report, our maintenance team thoroughly inspected the aircraft and the PA system and determined the sounds were caused by a mechanical issue with the PA amplifier, which raises the volume of the PA system when the engines are running.”
They’re saying that the engine makes the PA volume louder, but that doesn’t explain what’s making the sounds.
