You know how you feel when you don’t check your pockets before doing the wash and you accidentally ruin a dollar bill? Take that times 26 million.
The last day to claim a $26 million lottery prize in California was yesterday. A winning ticket had been sold and officials know where and when. There was a lot of press saying, “If you bought a ticket here, double check.”
I think you know where this is going.
A woman went back to the store and said she bought a tick at that store, on that day, at that time………. But, it was destroyed in the washing machine.
However, she may not be totally out of luck.
There’s a security tape that lottery officials will investigate. Whether or not that leads to her being able to claim it is up in the air. Official rules say that if you lose a ticket, you have to provide proof that you owned it like a picture of the front and back of the ticket.
A $63 million prize went unclaimed in 2015.
