Mariah Carey is not the queen of Christmas, legally speaking. It actually went to court over who is “Queen Of Christmas”; Mariah or Elizabeth Chan?
Elizabeth who? Apparently all she does is Christmas music all year long. So, when Mariah applied for trademark on “Queen Of Christmas” and “Princess Christmas”, which doesn’t quite have a ring to it, Chan shook her finger and said, “Nuh-uh, girl!” Actually, she told Variety, “I feel very strongly that no one person should hold onto anything around Christmas or monopolize it in the way that Mariah seeks to in perpetuity. That’s just not the right thing to do.”
And let’s not forget that 29 years ago, David Letterman deemed Chan the Queen Of Christmas. All said and done, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board ruled against Mariah last Tuesday.
