Governor-elect Jim Pillen is preparing for a new life as Nebraska’s next governor, and he is saying goodbye to his current one. Pillen has been a member of the Nebraska University Board of Regents since 2012, and he assumed the board’s chair position in 2020.
When KLIN News asked Pillen about the transition from NU regent to governor, Pillen said, “We have been working very, very hard on transition and building our team and working on state government.”
Pillen will keep his position until the very end, however, and it may be some time until his position is filled.
“I plan on resigning effective a couple days or the day before I get sworn in as the 41st governor of Nebraska,” said Pillen. “Then, we will put a process out so that we get applicants in and then we’ll get into that work in the new year.”
Pillen will begin his gubernatorial tenure on Jan. 5.
