Not to be a Debbie Downer, but NASA has released a statement saying that there isn’t any way we can stop an asteroid from hitting Earth.
They ran a bunch of simulations, with and without Bruce Willis involved, and it always ended the same.
It wasn’t just NASA. Several space agencies from around the world got together for the Planetary Defense Conference. The came up with a test scenario where a big rock is headed our way and we even have 6 months advance warning. They looked at every angle from hitting it off course or destroying it, but nothing worked. Although, they also considered using nuclear weapons to reduce its mass, but they ruled it out because international law forbids using nuclear weapons in space. In other words, Earth would be doomed because of a legality.
I’m pretty sure Mr. Willis would have something to say about that.
