With the cost of lumber skyrocketing, we’re going to start seeing houses made from other materials. I was just reading today about how a company in town is using these things called ICFs, insulated concrete forms. They’re described as something like giant Legos with concrete poured inside of them. They used to cost more than wood, but not so much anymore. Plus, they’re better insulation, keep out more sound, and stand up to rough weather better. It got me curious about what else can be used. Did you know you can frame a house using straw bale? Some places are using recycled goods. There’s cellular PVC, engineered wood (which is composite wood), light gauge steel, and fiber cement. Here’s a couple articles on all that.
HERE and HERE.
Goodbye wood?
