I was forgotten at the doctor’s office yesterday. Literally.
I was with the doctor in one of the clinic rooms. He said he was going to send in a prescription for me and set up another appointment. Then he left the room. Normally, someone comes back after things are taken care of, hands you some paper work, and then sends you on your way.
So, I waited 10 minutes. Then 20. Then I poked my head out the door and jokingly said to a passing nurse, “Hey, you guys didn’t forget about me did you?”
Yes. Yes, they had. Another nurse stepped up and said she’d discharged me 10 minutes earlier. They profusely apologized and I was on my way.
I’m not mad about it, but it made me realize just how used to waiting around we are at doctor’s offices. It’s such a common expectation that sitting in a small room for 20 minutes doesn’t feel out of the ordinary at all.
Again, not mad. The doctor and the rest of the staff were great. It was kind of funny though.
