Probably the most relevant inspiring story that could be told today would be one about putting aside deep seated differences in order to do something great.
Idit Harel Segal is an Israeli schoolteacher who wanted to do something significant for her 50th birthday. She decided to donate a kidney. And she stepped across years of cultural hatred to do it by giving the kidney to a three year old Palestinian boy. Red tape had to be cut and promises made, but she got it done. One of those promises, by the way, was that the boy’s father would also donate a kidney. His went to an Israeli patient.
Before Idit makes the donation in about a week, she wrote a letter to the boy to read later in life. It says, “You don’t understand my language and I don’t understand yours, but soon we’ll be very close because my kidney will be in your body. I hope with all my heart that this surgery will succeed and you will live a long and healthy and meaningful life.”
She says that she sees this as a way for peace and hope. Read more about her BY CLICKING HERE.
