I saw a 100 year old woman deadlift 165 pounds the other day. Her name is Murway Traina. Let me put this into perspective. My warm up set is usually around 165 pounds on deadlift. So, she’s catching up to me. She also benches like 65 pounds which doesn’t sound like a lot, except that she’s 100 years old! She’s now in the Guinness Book Of World Records as the world’s oldest power lifter.
And it’s not like she’s been doing this her whole life making it easy for her. No, Murway didn’t starting hitting the weights until she was 91 years old. It’s never too late. The lady looks great, mobile, flexible, and ready to do everything younger people do.
People sometimes ask me why I ride my bike and go to the gym as much as I do. I usually say, “Because I can and because I want to be able to keep doing it when I’m older.” I think that now I’ll I’ll just say, “Because I want to be like Murway Traina”.
