Mel Brooks is 95 years old. Let that sink in while I mention that he’s working on a new movie. He’s writing, again at the tender age of 95, a sequel to his classic “History Of The World Part 1”. That came out 40 years ago.
There were so many great actors in that movie: Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn (who I had a young boy’s crush on), Harvey Korman, Cloris Leachman, Sid Caesar, and even Orson Welles doing the narration. Oh, and I just realized, watching the trailer, that John Hurt played Jesus.
The Moses and tablets scene was one of my favorites as a kid and who could ever forget the inquisition musical scene?
Anyhoo, I guess it’s not going to be a movie, rather, a series on Hulu. And Mel is getting help with the writing from Wanda Sykes and comedian Nick Kroll. You might not recognize Nick’s name, but he has actually been hitting it pretty big the last couple of years. He has a series called Big Mouth that you’d never want kids to see. He’s also the voice of Uncle Fester in the two animated Addams Family movies, and he’s Gunter in the “Sing” movies.
Hulu has ordered 8 episodes. They’re expected to premiere in spring of 2022.
