It’s okay to drink wine every night. Lebron James says so. He told ESPN, “I’ve heard it’s good for the heart. Listen, I’m playing the best basketball of my life, and I’m drinking some wine pretty much every day.”
He’s kind of right. Wine does contain antioxidants that help prevent coronary artery disease and heart attacks. There’s also polyphenols which support heart health. There’s also been evidence that wine can help reduce bad cholesterol and increase the good kind. But, like everything else, moderation is key. Having too much of Snoop’s “19 Crimes” wine at the holiday party isn’t going to do you any heart favors. Drinking too much can lead to higher blood pressure and higher triglycerides which then can cause heart disease, strokes, and heart attacks.
As for LeBron playing the best basketball of his life, I’m gonna chalk that up to the daily work outs and his winning the genetic lottery. The wine might be doing a little bit to make things run better, but it’s probably like adding an air freshener to a Ferrari.
