Mother Nature, who upset you?! Tornadoes in December? STOP!
Less than a week after multiple tornadoes hit Western Kentucky and neighboring states (so devastating), it was Nebraska’s turn for tornadic weather – hitting way too close to home, literally!
About one block away from one of my childhood homes in Columbus, a tornado touched down ripping off the roof of a house and damaging other structures and vehicles in the area. The fenced-in field of an elementary school is all that separated my once childhood home and the heavily damaged house. And get a load of this, many years ago my little brother Tim would visit and play with a friend who lived in that house.
Speaking of my little brother – as all of this was going on – he believes he drove through a tornado near Klub 81 Travel Center And Grille (by Humphrey, north of Columbus) as he was racing home to get to his wife and kids (he was traveling from Aurora).
“I seen it with my own eyes,” said my brother. “It lifted my car up and moved it on the road, and as soon as I could, I turned around and headed to Klub 81 to seek shelter.”
When he parked at Klub 81, he called to update me – which was literally the same time TV forecasters were confirming that a tornado was in that area. Talk about a terrifying situation!!
I’m so glad he’s okay and his wife and kids are okay.
– VIDEO –
Below in the first video, you’ll see emergency services passing my childhood home (gray house with the tornado siren in the back yard) en route to the scene, and in the the second video you’ll see an actual tornado ON THE GROUND ripping through a (separate?) neighborhood in Columbus.
