Odds are your cat enjoys getting cozy with your Christmas tree. That same cat may also enjoy playing with the ornaments, biting the lights, and climbing the tree. GRRRRR!
How do you make your kitty stop?
Well, there’s a weird new holiday trend where people are chasing their cat around the house with their Christmas tree, and posting video of the act. The idea is to make your cat afraid of the tree. Those who have done it say it works. BUT experts say it’s NOT a good thing to do because you’re TRAUMATIZING those fur babies.
When cats are traumatized, there’s a great chance they’ll retaliate. Examples include: becoming more aggressive toward people . . . having diarrhea . . . and peeing outside their litter box. Those fur babies are also not that stupid, and know your tree is an inanimate object. So instead of being afraid of the tree, it might just make them afraid of you.
Growing up, a method that seemed to work was having a squirt bottle full of water. Whenever the cat would approach the tree, a couple squirts and a stern “no” prompted the cat to NOT go bananas for the Christmas tree.
