Last week I was complaining about the price of birthday cards. This week, Hallmark announces that they have video greeting cards. Obviously they were listening and are trying to up their game. And, the sell for $4.99 which is half the price that I got gouged for on that paper card last week.
Here’s how the video cards work. You buy a regular paper card that has the normal stuff on it. Buuuuuuuut, you can personalize it with a video message that is activated by scanning the QR code on the card.
Each card has its own QR that is covered up until you buy it. Once it’s purchased, you, the giver, scan it with your phone and then upload pictures and videos. The Hallmark website puts them all together in one video file.
It’s a nice novelty. Being cheap, I’d rather just video myself saying happy birthday and e-mailing it to whoever, but with the card, I guess you can pass it around and other people can scan it.
There is one catch. The video montage will expire 6 months after you upload everything. So, half a year later the scanning won’t work. They will let you download the video though.
