Betty White has inspired a social media challenge. And finally, it’s a challenge that isn’t dumb. The #BettyWhiteChallenge is asking that everyone to donate $5 to a local animal shelter or rescue on January 17th, Betty’s birthday.
Betty was very passionate about rescuing animals. For example, after hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Betty paid for a private plane to move a bunch of penguins and other animals from the New Orleans Aquarium to safe shelter at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California. And it’s not like they could just sit on the plane’s seat. The plane needed special outfitting for the animals. Betty paid for it all……… anonymously. No one found out it was her until years later.
I’m in for this challenge. If you’re in Lincoln and have an extra $5, do the Betty White Challenge and donate it to the Capital Humane Society. Or to the rescue in whichever town you’re in.
