I think this qualifies as a Friday Feel Good Feature on the show. Three buddies who have attended every Super Bowl together since the very first one, will be there this Sunday………. But then call it quits. After 55 years, health concerns are making it too hard to look at future Super Bowl plans. There were more people in their group, but they’ve passed away. These three are all in their 80s. One last hurrah in a decades old friendship.
Here’s how things have changed since they went to the first Super Bowl. This year, they’re paying $2,500 for their tickets. That’s more than 400 times what the first game cost. It was only $6 in 1967. That was a game against The Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers. It wasn’t called the Super Bowl then. It was called the World Championship Game. “Super Bowl” wasn’t used until the 3rd game in 1970. It was the only Super Bowl to NOT sell out and a TV commercial cost $42,000.
I was going to include a video of the history of the Super Bowl, but the NFL blocked it from being shared unless you watch it on YouTube. Here’s the URL is you’re interested: “https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh5jaFpbXUQ”
Instead, please enjoy this classic Super Bowl commercial that didn’t freak anyone out at all, ever…….Puppy Monkey Baby.
