Disney, in real towns, is building neighborhoods that’ll be like living on their resort. Details and video where they explain it all in blog.

Disney is moving from theme parks to building actual residential communities under the business name of Storyliving. They’re geared towards people who have a nostalgic idea of a neighborhood. The plans for the first one Disney is building in California includes a 24-acre oasis with a turquoise lagoon surrounded by a beach area and clubhouse with shops restaurants and entertainment. Single family homes, estates, and condos will all be be for sale in an area that they want to represent small town charm with Disney inspired beauty. California is just the beginning. They want to build all over.

I’m afraid to ask how much it’ll cost. It’ll probably be that famous Disney premium. You know, like when you go to their theme parks and a hot dog is $14 instead of the $2 it’d cost anywhere else.  And they’re going to want to keep any kind of crime completely out of these places. So, they’ll need beefed up security all of the time and that’s going to add to the price. It’s going to be Zippity Doo Dah, Zippity Pay.

I think I would rather live in a neighborhood that Universal Studios built. They could build a lagoon too, but theirs would have Jaws in it. I think everything would be more exciting with stuff from Batman, E.T., Harry Potter, and Transformers.
