I keep seeing articles titled “What would happen if there was a nuclear war”. Fast answer is that everyone kicks the bucket. The end. The fact that these articles are everywhere, having to explain that, highlights how long it’s been since the cold war ended. I’m old enough to remember the drills in school. In grade school, a couple times a year, they’d have us all practice hiding under our school desks and covering our heads with our arms. Then we’d all gather in the basement in a calm, orderly fashion. Cheyenne isn’t that far from where I grew up. Also, OFFUTT was to the east of us. Both areas are prime targets for the Russians and we were in the middle of them. So, it just would have just been vaporize time.
Now that I think about it, there were also “Public Shelters” everyone was supposed to go to. Do those exist anymore? If they do, will there be plenty of school desks for us to hide under?
Here’s another What To Do If Nuclear War article. The phrase ” Kiss your ____ goodbye” comes to mind.
