Worlds largest potato isn’t a potato. Guinness record hopes mashed. Explanation and video in blog.

A few months back I talked about a couple in New Zealand that grew a gigantic 17 pound potato in their home garden. They weren’t even trying. It just happened when they were gardening. Anyway, it looked like they were going to set a world record with it. They even named it Dug. Well, the Guinness Book Of World Records doesn’t take things at face level. They asked for a small sample of Dug and ran DNA testing on it. Turns out that it’s not a 17 pound potato. Dug is a tuber or a gourd according Guinness. The people that grew it aren’t devastated by the news. To the contrary. They say this has now inspired them to actually try and grow a record setter. Also, they did say they’re still confused how it looks like a potato and tastes like a potato, but isn’t. They know about the taste because they had cut a little chunk out and ate it. They were going to turn it into vodka, but now that they know it’s into a potato, they’re not sure what’s going to happen.
