Tonight’s inspiring story is about bringing smiles to a place of sadness. And sometimes putting a nice layer of lipstick on those smiles. Jackelyn Kastanis bring beauty products to hospitals for women and girls in hospitals. It began when Jackelyn’s best friend, only 27, was diagnosed with cancer and given one year to live. While spending time in the hospital with her, Jackelyn felt that the environment was stale and needed something to make it feel normal. She brought in makeup and hair extensions that they toyed around with. Jackelyn says it changed her friend’s entire outlook.
Since, she’s created the nonprofit Simply From The Heart that creates “Glam Boxes” that contain over 30 different beauty products. Volunteers take them to patients. Then patients get pampered with hand massages, nail painting, and make up applications. Patients have told Jackelyn that she has helped them heal. Jackelyn says that she just wants them to have an experience that feels like Christmas morning.
