UNL made national news for science instead of sports. The engineering department is developing material that helps keep moisture away from from things like power lines during storms.
I know, you’re probably thinking the same thing I thought at first, “Just wrap it all in plastic.” But that’s not thinking about every angle. And why I’m not an engineer.
This new material makes sure that droplets bounce off of it. Normally a rain drop with hit and splash. My understanding is that this stuff repels almost all of it. And because there isn’t moisture, it can’t freeze causing downed power lines and knocking your power out. The research is being funded by the Navy because they’re interested in applying it to underwater vehicles.
