What the . . . REALLY? Supposedly so!
Out of 85 dogs’ poop samples, European researchers found that 17% of those samples contained a SUPER STRAIN of E. coli that’s resistant to antibiotics. So when you consider that dogs sometimes EAT poop, it’s suggested that it could be in their saliva too.
The same researchers also tested the poop of 18 cats . . . and of those cats only one had the super strain . . . which would be 6%, but obviously that’s a small sample.
Before panicking like I did, the researchers also tested all the owners’ fecal matter, and 13% of those samples had the bacteria too. Everyone in the study was healthy, so it might not be a big deal. But they do think it’s best NOT to let your dog lick your face.
