State Troopers in Texas are being told their waist size could determine their job or if they still have one. Men have to get to 40 or below and women 35 and under even if they pass their physical fitness tests.
By the way, according to health guidelines, these are the measurement, 40 and 35 inches, that define the beginning of abdominal obesity. Studies show that anything increases chance of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and death.
That said, a little over 200 are over the limit. If they don’t slim down, they can be denied promotions and overtime and even be let go. Needless to say, some have problems with the policy. Texas DPS is being sued over it. The lawsuit cites that it’s unreasonable and demeaning.
Is this any worse than the “must be able to lift 50 pounds” that’s listed on a lot of jobs? State Troopers are expected to be able to chase people, clear hurdles, and subdue criminals. I’ll add that I’m not a believer in determining someone’s fitness and abilities by body density, size, or shape.
I wonder how big Kojak’s waist was. The guy always had a sugary lollipop in his mouth, non-stop.
