I have an update on that story I did a yesterday, the one about the two guys jumping out of planes and trying to fly into the opposite plane. I had said that I can’t believe that they were allowed to do it by the FAA, But, I assumed they had gotten the ok because it was live streamed on Hulu and Red Bull sponsored it.
The FAA did NOT say it was okay. The two guy doing the stunt had written to the FAA saying they wanted to do it and tried to get permission. They gave an obviously smoke screen explanation saying that it “would be in the public interest because it would promote aviation in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) and encourage students to seek a career in STEM.”
The FAA wasn’t buying it and denied the request. So, now there’s going to be an investigation and probably some stiff penalties because they went on with the stunt………. And they crashed a plane……… and it could have done a lot worse.
Red Bull has already started trying to distance themselves from the whole thing.
