Scientists have found organisms trapped in salt crystals from 830 million years ago. They’re little single celled microorganisms that they might be able to revive. Apparently, scientists have already found other little bits of life in salt crystals before and got them up and moving again. Some of them go dormant when trapped in the crystals, just waiting for a chance to escape and start moving again.
But honestly, with Covid and monkey pox, don’t we have out plates full dealing with weird little bugs at the moment. Should we really be reviving something from millions of years before humans were around? Mark my words. One of these times they’ll be brain eaters.
Anyway, they’re hoping to use these techniques at resurrecting these little buggers if they happen to find similar small life trapped in sediment and crystals on Mars where the rover is collecting things.
