META sued, claims that Facebook and Instagram “are addictive” and have caused all sorts of problems.

This seems like it was inevitable. People are taking Facebook to court for things that have happened to them and their kids. There have been at least 8 suits filed in the last week. One 22 year old woman is saying that she became addicted to Facebook after using it as a child. And that addiction led her to get eating disorders and attempted suicide. Another suit comes from a family that is saying their daughter got an Instagram account when she was 11. They say that body shaming led to the now 19 year old girl to suffer from depression, anxiety, and anorexia. In an interview (video below), one mother says that META fed her daughter’s addiction and that she and her husband were trying to protect her daughter, “but the multi-billion dollar company was working against us”.

The suits claim that Meta isn’t safe and it’s addictive for kids and that the company didn’t do enough to warn people and put things in place for protection. The word fraud appears, along with negligence, and big numbers for money compensation.
