Kevin Phillip is a seasoned paraglider who was filming himself when his glider wrapped around and tangled up his body. It left him in a free fall fighting for his life. He was about 3 seconds from losing that fight when he finally was able to deploy a chute. You know how you can put loose string in a container with other stuff and come back later and somehow everything is completely tangled up to the point you have to use scissors to cut it loose. That was Kevin as he was falling towards the ground.
Apparently his brake line got stuck. Then a heavy wind hit him and crumpled everything. Again, all on film on a camera that makes you feel like you’re right next to him. You watch him frantically struggle, reaching for the pack that has the backup parachute. But it’s wildly swinging around him out of reach. Meanwhile, he’s just getting more and more tangled up as the Earth quickly rises up to meet him. Even after the parachute is out, Kevin doesn’t have any control and hits the ground pretty hard.
Watching this makes me realize that there is yet another activity that I would rather swim with sharks than do.
