Reduce chance of dementia 50% by………. Hint, it ain’t eating pizza.

Walk more today and you can remember more tomorrow. That’s kind of the jist of a new study that tied daily walkabouts to a lower risk of dementia. They found that people between 49 and and 79 were 50% less likely to develop dementia if they and average of 9,826 steps a day.

A lot people are thinking that 10 thousand steps a day is a lot. It can be, but you’d be astounded by how many steps you put in if you get up from your desk a couple times every hour throughout the day and walked around the office. You can get a couple thousand in easy at lunch time. The average person puts in 40 or more steps every minute when walking. Do the math. It adds up pretty fast.

If you can’t get to 10k, the study showed that people who get to 3,800 steps a day cut the risk of dementia by 25%. Honestly though, 50 sounds a lot better than 25 especially when it comes to something that can kill you.

It all comes down to exercise, again. The study found that exercise boosts the amount of protein that strengthens communication between brain cells.
