Chili dog pasta instead of a bun. We had leftover chili and some hot dogs the other night. Weird thing was, neither Jenny and I wanted to use buns. She simply split the her hot dog down the middle and poured chili over it on a plate. I experimented. I diced my dog into smaller chunks then scattered those over a plateful of small shells pasta, pasta that I’d tossed in olive oil and lightly salted. Then I added some shredded sharp cheddar cheese and tossed it some more. Finally, I poured chili over everything and then sprinkled diced red onion on top of that. It was delicious. I made me want to make more chili so I could do it again.
We were getting tired of soggy buns. It seems like every time we made normal chili dogs, the bun gets too soggy and falls apart. We end up having to use forks to eat them and they’re just fun to eat like chili dogs are supposed to be. I’ve also been considering making pigs in a blanket with the onions and cheese inside the bun and then using a small bowl of chili like a dipping sauce. Next time.
