Elon Musk wants to put computer chips in human brains. Meanwhile, over at North Carolina State University, researchers are creating cybernetic cockroaches. They’ve creating little electronic backpacks that hook up to the cockroaches antenna. Using a remote control, they can send electrical signals to the antenna that get the roaches to turn left or right and move in those directions. The hope here is that these cyber cockroaches can be used to help save people in search and rescue missions after earth quakes or anywhere else people might be buried by rubble.
I don’t advise this, because I’m a little weirded out by it, but you can buy a kit that lets you make your own remote control back pack for a roach and how to attach it. There’s a website called Back Yard Brains that sells the kits called Robo Roaches. It literally allows you to control roaches using an app on your phone.
